First, a raised center allows for open space on the main level and high ceilings conducive to a spacious living area in the loft. Many customers use a portion of the main level for a mix of workshop space, storage, and lounge area. In the loft, it is common to find either a full apartment barn or prime entertaining area. This is exactly what these customers did here. The main level has a workshop and garage space, while the loft has a full kitchen, living area, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms.

Second, the utilization of lean-tos is a cost effective way to add usable space. Lean-tos are three-sided structures that bear weight on the main building. This reduces the total kit framing requirement and keeps costs down. Additionally, lean-tos connected to a raised center create a broken roof line look, which adds visual appeal from the outside.

On this project, the lean-tos widen the overall footprint of the kit with the space used for workshop and storage space. It is also very common to have horse stalls or room for other animals in these winged sides.
